Lakefront Luxury and a Capsized Sunfish

Lakefront Luxury and a Capsized Sunfish

Celebrating Summer in Style: Lake House Adventures and Gourmet Delights

We started the summer with a bang at our lake house! Most of the London kids visited (in 2 shifts, thank you) for a week or so and then our friends Liory and Ant (also from London) and their kids Zoe and Ethan graced us as did the original Tiger and the Monkey, my dad Rick.  As they are all fully aware, I do not cook (unless you count pasta and the occasional coconut flan) so it was great having people who actually know how to do that -and do it well- feeding me. They also cleaned up so, hey, that’s what I call luxury.

We Turned Our Lake House into a Summer Sanctuary of Fun and Luxury

It was blistering hot outside and the lake temperature rose to 87 degrees -my idea of perfection. They all loved it too because they had been enduring a particularly shite summer in London so the sun and heat were welcomed. We swam, canoed and kayaked and my husband decided after not sailing for 45 years that he would join the Lake sailing fleet and do some races. We inherited an original Sunfish from the early 70s from the previous owners and he fixed it all up to be in sailing shape for said first race. The goal was not to be in last place.  I was not in favor of this goal because I’m always in it to win it but I accepted this flaw in his thinking. In any case, we all cheered him on from our dock -Liory in the June kaftan and me in the purple T and M T-shirt and my bathing suit. He managed to get into 3rd to last place which was good – and then the boat “turtled” (capsized and turned all the way over).  Goal not met but at least he learned how to “right” a turtled sailboat…..Additional races followed with similar outcomes but he’s still doing it and I see the joy in his face- what a luxury.

We didn’t manage to put in the floating dock with the slide this summer – too much going on and we had to put railings in several places to protect all of our overserved friends (and us) from falling into places we don’t belong. And oh yeah, to make sure my dad with bad knees can get down to the lake safely.  Dock on the docket for spring so we have it in the water the minute summer arrives next year!! Regina and Chris coming for Labor Day to round out the summer and bid it goodbye with a bit of elegance and a bit of cheek. Tigers and Monkeys all.
